Top Model Participant Isis Is Show's First Transgender

Isis, 22, is the first transgender contestant on the CW's reality show America's Next Top Model. One of the judges on the show, make up artist Jay Manuel also stopped by the studio last week to talk about Cycle 11.
Isis was discovered when she participated as an extra in a previous cycle's promotional shoot. She caught the eye of ANTM producers and Isis was asked to audition for Cycle 11. She made it and is now one of 14 participants in the reality show.
Isis faced mixed reaction when the rest of the girls discovered she was transgender. However, Neil Giuliano, president of GLAAD, an anti-defmation group for the LGBT community, stated in an interview, "We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible."
Isis has made it through the first week of competition. She how she fares this week on the show. Tune in Wednesdays at 8pm on CW11.

I am one of the producers for Taxicab Confessions and during the 12 seasons of the show, have met some amazing transgender people. Their courage and honesty is inspiring and I commend Tyra on including Isis on the show. She is showing herself to be secure, outspoken and authentic and it’s refreshing to have that be a part of mainstream television. We have recently completed a new documentary called “Gender Blender”, which airs on http://www.crushedplanet.com ,about transgender beauty pageant contestants. I hope shows like these continue to embrace the GLBTQ community.
