Actress Melissa Leo Walks Across A 'Frozen River'

Melissa Leo is Ray Eddy in the new movie The Frozen River, which opens this Friday, August 1.
The Frozen River is set two days before Christmas near the frozen St. Lawrence River -- a little-known border crossing in the Mohawk reservation between New York State and Quebec, Canada. Ray, who is a single mother of two who earns minimum wage, gets into the business of smuggling illegal immigrants across the border in order to make ends meet. Another single mom Lila (Misty Upham), a Mohawk, also hops on board this bandwagon. The Mohawk tribe tries to put a stop to Ray and Lila, and a New York State trooper gets wind of this illegal activity.
Incidentally, Leo is a native New Yorker who has had an extensive carreer on TV and in film. She has been on series like Law & Order, The L Word, Homicide: Life on the Street and All My Children. Her film credits include Mr. Woodcock with Billy Bob Thorton and 21 Grams with Sean Penn.
