Beth Ehlers Talks About Her Military Role On 'All My Children'

Beth Ehlers is the newest face in Pine Valley on the ABC soap opera All My Children. She is the first actress on a daytime soap to play a female army lieutenant. She makes her first appearance as Taylor McBride on the soap today at 1pm on ABC.
Ehlers, a Queens native, played Harley Cooper on rival CBS soap opera Guilding Light before she jumped on the All My Children ship. Her groundbreaking AMC character is also an Iraq war veteran.
The precedent-setting character Taylor McBride mirrors a recent real-life first for women in the army. Last month, President George W. Bush nominated Lt. Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody to become the nation's first female four-star general. According to CNN, "By law women are excluded from combat jobs, the typical path to four-star rank." Lt. Gen. Dunwoody is a Persian Gulf War veteran.
Both Lt. Gen Dunwoody and Ehlers are native New Yorkers.
