Pitching Legend Don Sutton Wants To Help Those With Kidney Cancer

don0506.jpg

Don had a 23 year MLB career, most notably with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he was a pitcher. He is currently a full time broadcaster for the Washington Nationals. He won 324 games in his career, and ranks eighth on baseball's all-time strike out list. Don went to the World Series four times and is a four time all-star. He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998.

In order to provide hope and inspiration to others living with kidney cancer, Don, in partnership with the Kidney Cancer Association (KCA), is going on a road trip to spread the word about Stay In The Game, an awareness program designed to empower advanced kidney cancer patients and their loved ones to effectively manage their disease.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP...

Don is the national spokesperson for the campaign that is sponsored by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and Onyx Pharmaceuticals. The Stay in the Game program includes: educational materials providing information and resources for advanced kidney cancer patients and their loved ones; a web site featuring an interactive Q&A section where individuals affected by kidney cancer will have the opportunity to ask Don about his personal experience; a calendar of local appearances where Don will share his story to inspire others touched by advanced kidney cancer and resources for building a personal support team for those living with kidney cancer

My father like Don had Kidney cancer 29 years ago. At the time they removed his Kidney and all seemed well. 10 years later it came back. At that point he was given no hope. Sloan Kettering said they could do experimental treatments on him. They never came to pass. Then my fathers Dr. hooked him up with a Dr. in Franklin Tennesee. He went for experimental treatments in Tenn. They were brutal and it was filmed for a special on Nova with Jane Pauley. Unfortunately he did not make it. The treatment was Interluken II. I new some day someone would make advances and I am Happy for Don.
