It can be really tough to kick the habit.

But now new government guidelines mention the psychiatric risks associated with the smoking cessation drug Chantix. Experts say it has recently been linked to depression and suicidal behavior. Some consumer advocates are concerned about the safety of chantix because it's only been on the market since 2006. The guidelines are based on scientific evidence reviewed by independent experts.

In other news, i don't think I’ll ever be comfortable on the subway again after this story.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP...

I feel the same way. You've heard about bed bugs in hotel rooms in mattresses even carpeting.

But now according to a report in the New York Post. They're also in the subway. At a recent department of housing preservation and development forum a city bedbug educator admitted to seeing bedbugs on the benches of subway stations. They were spotted at Brooklyn’s Hoyt Schermerhorn station, also at Union Square and Fordham Road stations.

Can they latch onto you?

They can. They can get on your clothes, into your house and infest the whole place. It's a real problem here in the city. And it's not pleasant. I've treated lots of people in the ER for bedbugs, and it can be really annoying not to mention difficult to get rid of the bugs from your house.

Question: When is it time to seek medical treatment for bedbugs? I had the experience of discovering 17 bites on one shoulder - should I have gone to the ER? (I didn't because I didn't know what they could do for it). What is the treatment in the ER for bedbugs?

What I believe is crucial to stopping the bedbug problem here in the city: BANNING THE SALE OF REFURBISHED MATTRESSES. Almost every day I see trucks piled with mattresses collected from sidewalk garbage. People are dumping these because of the bedbug infestation, and they are being refurbished and returned to the community (probably without being treated for the infestation), which just creates a cycle of the problem.

Thank you for your time.

where is the info about the guy who was working on an invention to get rid of bed bugs. He used an upside down "dog dish", powder and a blow dryer. I would love to try that invention but can not find anything about it on the wpix website. I hope someone can help.
