Vick's Vapor Rub On Your Feet? Onions In Your Socks?

IF YOU HAVE A HOME REMEDY YOU WOULD LIKE DR. STEVE TO SUSS OUT, LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW OR CLICK HERE AND FILL OUT THE EMAIL FORM.

1. FACT OR QUACK: Put vapor rub on feet to stop coughing

QUACK. And this should serve as a warning for people who get all their medical information from the internet. This rumor started when an email circulated that said the national research council of Canada did a study which found that applying Vicks vapor rub to your child's feet when they have a cough relieves the cough 100 percent of the time. The NRC claims they never conducted such research and claim the entire story is bogus.

2. FACT OR QUACK: Put onions in socks to lower a fever

VIDEO & MORE AFTER THE JUMP...

QUACK. Unless you're trying to make your feet smellier than they are putting onions in your socks has no effect. If you want to lower a fever the best thing to do is take some acetaminophen or ibuprofen. But remember fever isn't all bad. It's the body's natural way of fighting infection.

3. FACT OR QUACK: A shot of whiskey, lemon and honey cures a sore throat

FACT, but hold the whiskey. According to the national institutes of health lemon and honey are time tested natural remedies that can soothe a sore throat and relieve that annoying tickle especially when combined in warm liquids like tea. This works but only for mild sore throats. If your fever gets over 101, if you can't swallow your saliva or if you have swollen glands, you should call your doctor.

Dr. Steve:
I thought I heard that cayenne pepper and vodka would regrow hair?

I believe that this has not been officially studies but the vicks on the feet does help. my 5year old grand daughter coughs alot at nite and the vicks did stop it completely. it would make since that if applied to the chest it would also work on the feet. the socks are to keep the bed clean. i have used this also and it works. just because it was not studied doesn't mean it doesnot work. try it yourself.

I just have to say, that unless you try something, you should not call it a "QUACK". I understand that you have proof that there was a fake email about a study, but I am telling you as a person who has used it on myself!! AND I thought my wife was a quack for suggesting it.

I finally got to sleep at night when I used Vic's Vapor rub on my feet.

I even stopped using it the next night to see, and the coughing came back.

SO, as much as you want to say it doesn't work because there is no study, the truth is, it did work for me... NO NOT FOR MY KIDS, OR FRIENDS, or a friend of a friend... FOR ME.

So, instead of calling something a quack... please try it first. Or talk to people who have actually used it. You are doing exactly what you are saying not to do... don't trust the internet without a test...

I found a vick;s bottle in my back yard. It is
about 1 inch tall and 1/4 wide. VICKS on one
side and DROPS on the other. how old is it, and
what were the contents.
