Friday Forecaster: Master Sargeant Tony Pizza, USMC

Master Sergeant Anthony M. Pizza stopped by as our Friday Forecaster to talk about The New York Leatherneck Ball. It is the oldest and one of the largest fundraisers for the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.

Master Sergeant Anthony M. Pizza was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1923. Tony worked at the Bendix Aviation defense plant until he enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1943. Following the completion of boot camp, Tony was assigned to Marine Aviation and transferred to the Naval Air Station at Jacksonville, Florida to complete his training. Upon graduation, he was retained as an instructor in Jacksonville and later taught in Memphis, Tennessee. His next move was to North Carolina where he served at various Air Stations with dive-bombers and fighter squadrons. After duty at these facilities, Tony was transferred to the west coast for overseas duty with the 1st Marine Air Wing, which brought him to the Philippines until peace was declared in 1945. His unit was then transferred to two air fields outside of Peiping, China. Tony remained there until he was discharged in 1946
