7:00am Segment Info:
There's even more research to back up the claim that eating fish is good for the heart.

A new study finds men who regularly eat fish high in omega three fatty acids like salmon or mackerel cut their risk of sudden cardiac death by more than 50%. In this study the men ate an average of 6 grams of fatty fish a day. That's two servings. But experts say you don't need to eat that much. The biggest gap is between people who eat fish and those who don't eat any fish at all.

MORE INFO AFTER THE JUMP...

And, vitamin D may cut your risk of diabetes. A new study finds giving young children vitamin D supplements may lower their risk of developing type-one diabetes later on in life. Children who took the supplements were 30% less likely to develop diabetes. We get much of our vitamin d from the sun. Previous research has found that people newly diagnosed with type-one diabetes have lower concentrations of vitamin D, and it's also more common in countries where sun exposure is lower.

8:00am Segment Info:
It's never good to have sleep problems... But a new report finds they may be tougher on women.

Experts say those with worse sleep had more inflammation, anger, hostility and depression compared to men. They were also more likely to be overweight and be less sensitive to insulin. Poor sleep is measured by the total amount of sleep, the degree of awakening during the night and how long it takes to get to sleep. Critics say the study didn't prove which came first, the sleep problems or the medical problems.

And speaking of medical problems, legislation is pending to create physical activity guidelines for Americans of all ages to follow in an effort to fight obesity.

The Physical Activities Guidelines for Americans Act, would direct the department of health and human services to prepare and promote physical activity guidelines and update them every five years. The bill has already been endorsed by more than 35 organizations, including the American Dietetic Association and the American Heart Association.
