Male Infertility, Escalator Dangers, Overeating & Allergies

Scientists now say male fertility problems may be determined in the womb.

These problems could include ailments like low sperm count and testicular cancer. Researchers say these issues may be linked to hormone levels early in pregnancy. This includes testosterone, in a critical "window" at eight-to-twelve weeks. Scientists with the University of Edinburgh say they've drawn their conclusions from studies in rats.

And, new research shows escalators are posing an increasing risk for the elderly. Scientists say escalator injuries among the elderly doubled from 1991 to 2005. Nearly 40,000 older people were injured during that period - most of them women. The average age of those injured was 80.

MORE INFO AFTER THE JUMP...

New warnings about the dangers associated with overeating.

Researchers say eating too much can disrupt entire gene networks in the body. This not only causes obesity, but also diabetes and heart disease. Scientists may now be able to predict a person's risk for getting these diseases and develop new drugs to prevent them.

And, scientists say adults aren't the only ones who suffer from allergies. New studies indicate pediatric allergies can interfere with children's sleep... Causing them to feel out of sorts during the day.

Spring is by far the worst allergy season... According to those participating in the study. Nearly half of the children polled took prescription medication for allergy symptoms.
