Yoga's Goin With The Flow

yoga0221.jpg

In the final installment of Tiffany's series on the healing power of Yoga, she checks out Vinyasa Yoga. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.” In other words, the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This technique is sometimes also called Vinyasa Flow, or just flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance.

To try Vinyasa Yoga for yourself, you can take a class at Sankalpah Yoga, located at 254 Fifth Avenue, 3rd Floor, New York City. You can also log onto their website at www.sankalpahyoga.com for more information.

I have tried Sankalpah Yoga and have found that the teachers are wonderful, caring and understanding. Isaac's, Jude's and the other teachers take an interest in each student that attends their classes. You feel like it is a special time just for you even when you know you are not alone in class.

I recommend it highly and know that when you come to class you will experience something really special as you do your practice.

We have been students of Jude & Issac from when they taught at Exhale and have followed them to Sankalpah Yoga.
Both Issac & Jude have an advanced understanding of body mechanics and apply this knowledge to the sequence of poses in their classes. We are very happy that they have recived this exposure but hope that it doesn't effect access to their classes. Though the studio could use some added heat during the winter months, their studio on 5th Ave between 28th & 29th street is a soulful refuge from the stresses of the city

Sankalpah yoga is truly a magical place. Isaac, Jude and other teachers that I have taken class with are deeply invested in their students practice and well being. Furthermore, they are passionate, knowledgeable, encouraging and inspiring. The studio is beautiful, clean, inviting and filled with great energy and considerate people. It is not to be missed.
