Forget it. In this crazy PC culture, asking for justice, or just something make sense, it often not PC.
Charging the soldiers for not doing business by the book? You you freaking kidding me? Since when did politicians do things by the book? Not only politicians, but anyone who has power (like cops, lawyers, judges, or any big companies) tend to abuse the laws instead of follow them, since they know how to play with it to their advantage. That's why they often give people the feeling of they are above the law.
It is a classic double standard: they play with the laws to their advantage, but the rest of the suckers have to follow the laws, or they will be arrested.
The financial world is crazy also. 60 minutes reported a few months ago. Those guys get paid money, and then messed up, and is part of the reason for the recession. Now they are paid AGAIN to fix the problem, which THEY caused.
Of course, it is all about big corps in bed with govt, that govt wants power and big corps wants money, taxpayers are the suckers - as always.

Larry I agree with you all the way. But if there one thing that true in any part of the world is that there no justice. Those who have power and control will always bend the law and escape from justice. Justice has lost all it's meaning and purpose in the world these days.

Larry, As a mother of one of the Leavenworth 10, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for having the MOXIE to take a stand. It will not be the politicans or the military that will bring our soldiers home it will be our neighbors, our friends and Americans like you who are willing to stand-up and defend these men of honor. On a related note how about the case of Phillip Esposito - volunteer - Captain in the National Guard. He and First Lt. Louis E. Allen were killed in their barracks in Tikrit in 1995.They were killed by one of his own men that put claymore mines into the their barracks one early evening. A sergeant testifying in the murder trial stated that they were killed a day after Esposito asked about removing this same soldier from his duties. This man was found not guilty in his murder trial by a jury of 14 despite clear evidence to the contray. " IS THAT JUSTICE "

This is one of most insightful coverages you did so far. I had no idea about the Leavenworth 10. It's horrible, it's shocking. These men served the country, some of them for years, and are being punished for it. They went to another country, put their lives on the lines, and are just having the government give them a big "forget" you. It just shows why people are distrusting the American system [government] more and more. It's just unfair. How can you let out prisoners for terrorizing innocents, but send people over to kill the same people and turn around and call it murder. Did you not tell them to do it? You hired them! You should go to jail for conspiracy to murder then. Lock up the military head and the president along with them. This is why people having no sense of pride for the U.S. anymore, why nationalism is down to its lowest since the 1930s. Why just about everyone up North thinks the government is out to get them. Why people are always looking over there shoulders and always locks their door [while in Canada they leave it wide open]. The only reason why people put up with this injustice is because where the heck else can we go. The U.S. seems the best by comparison and that's sad because it should be the best because it is. And while we're sitting here writing over more of our tax money for them to punish heroes and give health care to illegal immigrants and constantly spit on the "little man" we forget we run the country. I am a mom-in-law of one of the Levenworth 10 and I thank you for making public the stories of these soldiers. I have not met Fran yet, but hope to meet at the rally -L10FreedomRide.com - Sat of Labor Day weekend. She has been extremely helpful to my daughter as the Vicki & Scott Behenna have who have spiraled this event and alerted politicians for support and defense of our young men. These young men are courageous, honorable, and have given their lives selflessly. Unfortunately, there are still young men being charged to this day with murder, something we all had hoped would not continue. As a patriotic American, it is my duty to continue to be there for each and everyone of the soldiers - we are all family. We are thankful for their service, and we will be on the front lines here fighting the battle for their freedom 100%.

There is no justice in this world, because MONEY TALKS AND NOBODY WALKS. It is always the rich and powerful that get away with everything.

Now to change the subject, I don't know how those men could be murderers, if they were sent to war to fight for us.

It makes no sense, like a lot of things these days.

And if BP let that killer loose, and he got a hero's welcome, that is sick sick sick!

This world is a mess of contradictions. How in the world could they let a killer free, and prosecute the military men who are trying to protect us?

Larry, thank you for bringing this to my (our) attention. What an abomination, I am disgusted to be an American and quite pissed over this. I cannot believe our nation is not in an uproar over the treatment of these poor soldiers.

It is the Army lawyers that sit back home in a nice safe place that scan all the reports and look for something they can pick on. They are the ones who decide what is right and wrong. Then it sounds like one of these men had a trial in front of several army officers and none of them had ever been in battle. Do you think they understood what is like to be awake for days with only a few min. of sleep.
Our soldiers are sent to prison, but the enemy is being sent home if they "promise" not to join their friends again. Isn't that a sweetheart deal? No wonder so many US soldiers are suicidal.

I think I'm going to move to Switzerland. It is a NEUTRAL country, and you never hear of any fighting, or wars going on over there.

If anyone ever deserves a break it is our men and women serving in the armed forces in war zones. They are trained extensively (ranger school is no cake walk) to survive and defeat the enemy. They do what is necessary to survive - they do their jobs - and then get charged with murder? War is war. People die. GI's do the job they are trained to do. If the government doesn't want them killing terrorists then bring our men and women home to their families. The Commander in Chief lacks military experience. He never went to boot camp, never learned how to fire a weapon and certainly never got dropped in the boonies for a week and told to survive - no matter what it takes. Politics have no place on the battlefield.
Freedom Ride 2010 on September 4th in Leavenworth, Kansas will show the L10 that we are behind them. Everyone is invited to attend. Come listen to the families and give them your support. It is time for everyone to stand up for our heroes - especially those who volunteered to die for our country and in return were treated like common criminals. Get mad, America.

More often than not, I agree with what you say. In this particular instance, however, I take issue with two things:

1. There is very little of what we consider to be justice in this world, nor is life fair. That, unfortunately, is just fact. We do our best, but that doesn't always work.

2. Remember Mai Lai. I know we pay soldiers to kill, but we do have guidelines. The issue with this incident is that none of us was there to witness it, so we don't know exactly what happened, but if the guidelines of the Geneva Convention were not observed, or if there was just a plain bloodbath, we need to punish those responsible. We do, after all, expect our military to set a good example for Iraqis and Afghans. If our standard of behavior is lowered to that of the Taliban and other terrorist groups, we lose all our credibility.

One can suppose that you must have served in Viet Nam and you are familiar with the circumstances surrounding the Mai Lai incident, where CIVILIANS were killed. Meanwhile our troops are thrown under the bus by our government and now YOUR FRIEND OBAMA seems to feel that Military Law is not good enough for the terrorists of 9-11 and wants them tried in a Civilian Court of Law not too far from where over 2,200 innocent people lost their lives. Close to 100 Law Enforcement Officers (I'm sure another one of your favoite group of people) and 343 Fire Fighters gave their lives on 9-11. I am one American who could care less about the Geneva Convention or setting a good example for terrorists. When you have a cancer you cut it out, burn it out, use any means at your disposal to get rid of it. It is time people like you start to wake up. Hello Larry, My name is waynette and im a parent of a ten year old girl. I recently discovered that one of the music videos from an artist by the name of Jessica Jarrell displays a number and my daughter was contacting other kids on this number and I was told by her teacher that she was meeting someone online, kids are actually trying to hook up with others. Larry, i was shocked their are 11 year olds asking to talk to boys and also requesting certain preferences. The number is 323- 215 1278 and it is easy for pediphiles to contact these kids. My husband and i contacted the number and it was easy to talk to a young child. I heard guys trying to solicit sex on this same number. Please if you can spread the word on these numbers thats going around and making it seem like its celebreties that the kids think their going to talk to. Some of the numbers thats going around are supposedly justin beaver's and selena gomez's. I just want other parents to be aware of this because it is a way of entrapment for young kids.

yes, life is not fair, but it doesn't mean we should just let it go, otherwise we don't need cops or any justice dept.
If a guy got something robbed or stolen, or his loved one got hurt/killed, would you just say to him "well, life is not fair, and tough. so be a man, suck it up, and move on"?

The first part is pretty hypocrisy. We want someone to do the dirty work, but when someone did it, we charge him for not doing it pretty enough...
And don't even get me started with this Geneva Convention. The world changed, and the war on terror is hard to classified as a traditional war, so any terrorists caught is also hard to classified as POW also.
And it is not like those guys play with the rule either when the blew up the towers. Those who died there are NOT soldiers (despite the terrorists claimed that those who died help built the evil capitalism in America, so no one is innocent). And now some people want the rules of the convention applied to them?
If you think 9/11 is a traditional war, then declare it. If not, then terrorists are not POWs, Geneva convention is not applicable. You can't have it both way.

Larry, you position on this hardly seems objective. I agree the legal system is designed to protect the wealthy. That much is readily apparent from the way a pot dealer can get 20 years and some CEO can steal billions and walk. The imbalance is utterly stupid.

That being said, you cant continue to lead this crusade for the Leavenworth 10. The fact is that these men while what they did may in fact be morally permissible, as far as the law is concerned they committed criminal offenses.

There are reasons that the military does what it does, they may be lost on the person carrying out an order but its not up to them to know why its happening. Everything in the military is NEED TO KNOW. Therefore, you may not like it but there is a reason for it. So if your C/O tells you to release a guy that just blew away your friend......YOU DO IT. (I know that sounds horrible but that is the military) You do it because you have no idea what has happened above you. That guy could now be an operative working for us, he could be a Manchurian candidate, he could be being tracked via some kinda sub-dermal chip we shoved in him. Getting away from the normal everyday subjects. I ask you this, are you the guy who could tackle this subject. This country is obcessed with hybrid cars and alternative fuels which sometimes cost more, in the long run, than what they are worth. I propose to you, this, you can check it out and see for yourself. Gasoline is a most effective fuel for all automotive and other types of engines when it is utilized properly. In 1936 an inventor named Charles Pouge made a carberator which produced an amazing 200 miles per gallon of gasoline in V8 engines with 80% less emissions and no sacrifice in power. It also made the engines run cooler and more efficient. Since this was possible in 1936, can you imagine what can be done with today's technology. The government and oil companies are screwing with us. It is just a total farce. This is possible and no one wants to address it. Maybe you are just the man to bring this to light. Do you have the power. I sure hope you will look into it.

The fact is that we are trying to improve life on the planet and lowering ourselves to the tactics of terrorists means we will all degenerate into terrorists rather than subduing them. And, by the way, Tony, my father was a decorated World War II veteran who earned a Purple Heart defending this country against Nazi barbarism, so I understand exactly what war is. However, my father was part of "the Greatest Generation," which did not advocate behaving like terrorists or barbarians. He did his part in the war, then came home to recuperate and begin his life. That's what we all want.

Insofar as trying the suspected terrorists at Guantanemo, I'm all for it, and the sooner the better. Apart from everything else, I'm a taxpayer and I want my taxpayer dollars used toward a swift conclusion to this mess, not to draw it out forever. These suspected terrorists should be tried and dealt with and then we can move on. I do not understand why the government is waiting so long, nor do I approve, but none of us is in a position to hurry them up.

However, this discussion has degenerated into mudslinging, which is pointless here. We are meant to be addressing Mr. Mendte's initial assertion and I still stand by my initial posting: We weren't there, so we don't know what actually happened.

Any criminal behavior on the part of US troops should be addressed as such. We cannot afford to have terrorists pointing fingers at us and saying, "They do it, too." If we are to win the war on terrorism, we have to take the high road. If we and our military cannot distinguish between "war" and "homocide," then exactly what are we defending?

Tony, I can't ask my father anything as he passed away several years ago, but I presume you've heard the term POW? That's what they did with enemy soldiers who weren't shooting at them.

War is hell and I can't imagine being a US Troop in the theatre with this current terrorist enemy. They're trying to win, not to mention survive, yet worrying about whether they're playing by the rules? I believe our guys do better than any other country to do the right thing.

Remember, the terrorists hijacked our jets with innocent citizens aboard and flew those jets into buildings filled with innocent people along with crashing, by the force of some great people, a jet full of innocent passengers into a field in PA on 911.

I believe our troops do take the high road. But, try and always remember who we are dealing with.

When you hold a famous person the likes of Lindsay Lohan, in jail it's a huge problem for the penitentiary officers, they don't desire that. They're suffering a lot of press and stress on their jail. It gets all the other convicts in an uproar, it's not a good state of affairs. Due to that, they're going to want to get her out as soon as possible without looking like she's incurring extraordinaire handling. At least that's what they say. Don't make me laugh! Keep in mind, Lindsay had a 90-day jail judgment of conviction, the typical individual with that time in Los Angeles would be expected to do at least 22 or 23 days. But for Lindsay, now they're saying two weeks total, so definitely she'd be getting it better than the rest. Just goes to show get famous get away with anything. Just ask OJ!!
