A Cataclysm of Cats!
Not one but two cat stories in the news tonight. First, there’s the lady in Brooklyn who started out with two little kittens, a boy and a girl, and lo and behold, before she knew it, she was knee deep in cats. 37 of them, to be exact, all jumping and playing and making MORE cats, till it just got to be one hairball too many.
She called the ASPCA, who told her, categorically, she had a veritable cataract of cats and not to be catty or anything,but that was just WAY too much kitty litter in one house.
Well, she meant well, and the ASPCA let her keep two of them (Hey, isn’t this how the whole problem started in the first place?) But catastrophe was averted this time around, ‘cause someone had the good sense to spay and neuter these two fellas.
But let me tell you about the OTHER cat lady, this one in Russia. She has more than a hundred, and they all seem to be longhairs! And she is still collecting them. She says she wants to adopt every stray cat in the country!
You’ve got to see these pictures to appreciate her menagerie and the admirable control she seems to exert over them. Okay, maybe not at feeding time. It’s like a Russian whirling dervish dance gone completely MAD, and yet there is a certain charming wackiness to it all.
And all her cats appear so clean and poised. Look at how they sit separately in their colorful plastic chairs, acting….well, cat-like. Aloof and arrogant, with an expression that seems to say, “Oh, you think that was ME jumping around like a little silly child just then, vying for a morsel of delicious catnip???? No, that was not I. I would not stoop to such behavior.”
Listen, I know from cats. My cat Jake was as weird and cool as they come. Except when you tried to lock him out of the bedroom. He hated not to be in the bedroom with us. No delicate scratching at the door for him. Oh no. Every time we closed the door, he would take running leaps and HURL his little tabby body WHAM! against the side of the door, hitting it about two feet off the floor. I mean slamming hits, over and over, just as hard as he could, until we quickly gave in, and opened the door. Then he’d step daintily over the threshold, purring, with his little head held up high, like he owned the place. Which he did.
I can’t imagine having more than one.

Sounds like your Jake thought he was a cop cat or something. I'm sure that cat lady meant well, but, 37 cats is too much for one person to have even with the best of intentions. I've had 5 cats in my lifetime thus far,..... but, not at the same time.

No more than three at any one time for me and even that may be too much, two is better. More than that and cats seem to have conflicts with each other and if you don't get them all fixed you're gonna be dealing with cat spray all the time. I think too many cats makes you mental. People feed strays out of compassion, nothing wrong with that but then the bolder ones start exploring your house and making themselves at home. Oh well at least they keep the rodent population down.
I dunno. . .a hundred longhair cats? I think that Russian lady might be up to something! Perhaps something in a size 6 long Persian or Angora coat? :- P

Hi K! I must say that you look marvelous! Anywho, I had a very unique kitty which would fetch a ball and lay down when told and come running home before the dogs when whistled for. She was one of a kind with a mask like a raccoon and a personality to match. She could really stink up the litter box so can you imagine what that ladies place smells like.:( ouch. Well, I say 37 cats is way too much cat for one household I don't care how clean they are. I have 9 cats and clean up after them at least twice a day. The loose fur I sweep up sometimes looks like I can build another cat from it. My house doesn't smell and the cats are neutered or spayed but the cost of feeding them is astronomical!
My cat Samson has a unrinary problem which he's had to go to the vet twice at a cost of 1,600.00. So now he has to eat the vet formula food which is expensive,and I bought these two electric cat boxes thinking it would save me on the clean-up but all they've done is cost more than they're worth and I still have to scoop!
I love my cats but I stop at 9.

I grew up with having cats around the house. The most we ever had was 3. Matter of fact that is what my dad and brother have now. They are fun to watch them act as if they were still kittens even though they are between 8 and 14 years old. We did have one cat that lived until it was 20 years old and it was the most lovable cat you could ever have. By the way, saw your report where you said you were over 50, well you are looking hot and super for your age. May you continue to look as greatnow as you get older. You can take it from a end to end system, to a continous loop system, it would move more people. While a car is in it's station at ether end, two to four cars, are still in the loop, waiting to come and go next to a station, sorta like a ski lift system, why can't we do that.
