Take a look at THIS Video...

What has happened to exercise? I started pondering this after watching an infomercial sent to me by a friend. I will share it with you, but I’m not sure you’re going to thank me. Here it is:

I KNOW! (Apologies to Craig Ferguson)

You’re probably thinking what I’m thinking. Is that for REAL? This is a spoof from SNL, right? Will this give me arthritis? Or terrible nightmares? What gives?

Enough of this silliness. Let’s forget all that and think about food, shall we? I am going to Washington DC tomorrow to visit my mother, so I will do my Friday Recipe tonight. My mom, who’s in her ‘80’s, is still sharp as a tack and feisty. She could wrestle an alligator and win. A very small and tame alligator…..but still. Or, even better, she could lecture it until it just gave up. Or stare it down. Always worked with me and my brother.

How about something easy and summery? I am going to share a recipe from an old friend who once wanted me to go to China with him and write a cookbook. I couldn’t do it at the time, unfortunately. It would have been fun. Still on my list of things to do.

GAZPACHO

(I know, I know. What does this have to do with Chinese cuisine or my mother. Absolutely nothing. I just wanted to give you this particular recipe. So humor me, okay?)

2 cups fresh ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded, diced

1 green pepper, diced

1 cucumber, peeled and sliced

1 onion, peeled and sliced

1 clove peeled garlic

½ cup tomato puree

½ cup tomato juice

5 drops tabasco sauce

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

Put all of this in a blender and blend till smooth

Chill and serve with diced green pepper as garnish, if you like.

Makes about 4 to 6 servings.

ENJOY! I’m going to DC to watch some alligator-wrestling.

Thanx Kaity,
I needed a laugh. The marketing people are the only ones who gain from this sham. I notice that much of the focus of the camera is on the woman cleavage. Again, thanx for the laugh!

only real idiots would fall for this kind of ad
Infomercials are all the same, using the same stupid technique to sell you most useless stuffs.
If you google it, you can find sites that actually list out the techniques on this kind of ad - use beauty women/handsome men to do the demo, try to point out why do you need it, how will it help you.
It then throw out a few scientific terms to make it sounded creditable, and use some "lab test result" to prove it is not a joke. Of course, it also have the "if you order in the next x minutes, you can get y" sale.
The funniest of all is, on the button of the screen, there is always a fine print of something like "result not typical, individual experience may vary". Translation: the whole ad is garbage, change the channel or shut down the TV.

24. Hi Kaity,
Good old Jay Leno always says something along this line "Seriously America, do we need another exercise like this to give fat people an excuse not to get up", "How fat are we getting that exercising equipment have to move us instead of it being vice versa?"

Well well well, a recipe with all the ingredients i despise mixed up together!! Anything with chocolate perhaps?

Posted by Sheryll at August 7, 2009 12:34 PM

I believe that is a sham for lazy americans not to get up off their butt and either do some walking or jogging. That is my opinion anyway

To paraphrase Jack Nicholson's Joker;"Where does she get those wonderful toys?"

The manufacturer's of the above video exercise product should of just been more straight forward & called it "The Huge-Phallic-Double-Hand-Stroke-Pseudo-Exerciser",(Now with "Kung-Fu" Grip!).

Gee, This product is right up there with "The Tiddy-Bear" (If you haven't seen that one, Google it & click video, and be amazed!).

Think I'll pass on this one, but, it sure was humorously entertaining!

Have fun with the alligator wrestlers Kaity,(do they allow cameras?),... & please be careful.

Great Weekend To You & Yours!

Dear Mr. Thompson,
I really need your help. The help I will be asking from you is not for myself it is for my job. I have been working for 4 years at a local daycare called Stony Point Child Care Center. This summer we were shut down by the state suddenly for elevated levels of lead, coincidently that happened the week when my boss Laura Milsom was on vacation for literally the first time that lasted more that a day or two. We are housed in Letchworth Village, some place I am sure you have heard of because of Geraldo's expose, so the buildings are old and will always have elevated levels of paint. We rent the building from the town of Stony Point for a $1 lease due to our non-profit status. Because the lease is so small the Town will not help with the ibatement costs. This is where the help from you is desperately required. I go back to college at SUNY New Paltz in 3 weeks, I truly don't want to see all these kids with no where to go in September. That Daycare is more than just a Daycare, its truly a family. Thank you for all your help. Please write back to let me know your thoughts it would be highly appreciated.
Sincerly,
Marissa Abreu

Yikes! We-e-e-ll, it is the 21st Century, you know: If I can't get all my recommended daily allowance of exercise in pill-form, at the very least my exercise equipment should be doing all the work itself! :-) Now, about that jet pack TV implicitedly promised me as I was growing up . . .Hope you had a great weekend!

Hope you had a great weekend!
