Recipe for Disaster?
Again, it’s Friday and I do have a recipe for you, but first, let’s talk about a ‘recipe for disaster!” Have you gone to our ”PIX Day In History” on our website?! You absolutely must, if nothing more than to check out the crazy, weird ‘anchor’ hair!
OMG! I invite you to feast your eyeballs, for example, on The Fiftieth Anniversary of the Empire State Building Hit by a Plane (1995). Yes, the story is fascinating and beautifully reported by Julian Phillips, but come on! Would you look at me and my hair! It looks like I am hiding a small animal on top of my head. And while we’re at it, do I remind you somewhat of an Asian Donny Osmond in drag?!!!!!
Here are some other doozies!
Me with Jack Cafferty(Vince Coleman, 1993). He looks exactly the same, but again, am I trying to hide a small gerbil, perhaps, under my hair? What’s with that?!
Also….Boss is Back (1992)…In this case, not just hair, but the SHOULDERS! Great look for the ‘80’s but this is 1992, folks! Get some new clothes, Kaity!
Moon Landing (1994)
Mary Jo Movie (1992)
Had enough??? If not, just go to PIX Day in History! Oh, by the way, the stories are worth checking out, too! : )
Okay, now for a real recipe, hopefully, not a disaster. A dessert for the weekend? This is adapted from a recipe by Bob Delfs, a guy I went to Stanford with, who is a terrific cook and wrote a number of cookbooks on Chinese cuisine.
DEEP FRIED CANDIED BANANAS
Ingredients:
bananas, about 5 should do it
4 cups oil for frying
BATTER:
¾ cup flour
¼ cup cornstarch
½ cup water
2-3 egg whites
SYRUP
¼ cup sesame oil
1 ½ cups sugar
¾ cup water
2 tsps black sesame seeds
PREPARATION
Cut the bananas into 11/2 inch portions (about 5-6 pieces per banana)
Make the batter by first mixing the flour and cornstarch with the water. Then beat in egg whites. The batter should be very thick.
Also, fill two bowls with ice cold water and some ice cubes and put in the freezer till needed.
COOKING:
On one burner start to heat the cooking oil in a wok or deep fryer.
At the same time, on another burner, heat the syrup, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. If it starts to darken, turn down the heat. Be careful not to burn the sugar.
Check the consistency by dropping a small bit into a cup of ice water. It’s ready if it forms a hard ball that does not flatten when you take it out of the water.
Add the banana pieces to the batter and coat thoroughly.
Carefully add the pieces to the hot oil (use a long handled fork, if you can). Deep fry till golden brown and crispy, about 3 minutes.
Take out of the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Stir the pieces into the syrup. Then, one by one, drop them into the ice water. Keep the pieces separate.
Remove at once with a slotted spoon, arrange on a serving platter.
Keep doing this until all the pieces are caramelized.
Serve.
(Warning: getting the consistency and temperature of the syrup is a bit tricky, and you’re going to curse me while trying to clean your pans and utensils…not so easy! But it really is yummy, and I think worth the trouble.)
ENJOY!

Awww, Kaity, You've been consistently FINE-LOOKING throughout all of your hair styles! You don't look like an Asian Donny Osmond in drag to me, & your hair always looks so shiny & clean! Were you a Wella-Balsam or Breck Gal back in the day? The other thing I noticed is how steadfast your down to earth naturalness & sense of humor have been & continue to be. The stories are interesting too, (my favorite is the one on "The Boss").
Thanks for both the deep fried candied bananas recipe AND the video flashbacks.
They're both a feast!
Enjoy the weekend!
Haha, who hasn't looked backed and wondered why they wore their hair or clothes the way they did years ago.
Difference between you and most is, today, you still look as young as you did in the early 90's regardless of your hairstyles. Oh, and you finally moved on from those colorful outfits to so many awesome black jackets. :-)
When most folks watch home videos to take them back to relive the past, what is it like for you, Kaity, to relive so many "historic" moments in our city's, state's, country's and world's past by viewing past clips of your reporting?
Nice post!
woops! previous post was mine, Kaity.
23. Hi Kaity
Whenever i read the comments, i notice many remarks about your ageless phenomenon, unbeknownst to me, as i am only a follower of the PIX news for a short while now. But after reading this blog and perusing through the videos, ........... OHHHH CRAP, YOU LOOK THE SAME !! Ok Ok i sound like Christopher Columbus now.
I like sweet stuff, so i will demand someone to prepare this recipe for me!! I have a few questions. Can you answer them?
1. I read somewhere (i read so much, i can't remember where) that a show named Family Guy has a character based off you. Is it true? If you don't know what i am talking about, i recommend don't go watching...
2. Is there a nation wide newscast on CW like The Today Show on NBC or CBS News?
3. Which receives better ratings: PIX morning news or PIX at 10?
4. By no means, i intend to be disrespectful, but OMG the morning news sucks so bad. It's worse than being kicked in the nuts. Why is this so?
Well at least, Pix at 10 makes up for the deficit. Great news presenters, cool reporters and HD-tv is good to you folks, just saying...
Kaity,
We are our own worse critics. You look fine in all the clips. I've grown up watching you with my family. My grandma only changed channels a few years ago because we lost receotion for Channel 11. She's passed now, but I continue to watch you on the old tv I inherited from her. So I guess we are still watching you together. ;)

Hello Everyone! Always good to hear from you! And thanks for the support.
Nash, I happen to be a huge fan of Family Guy, and the character you are talking about ("our Asian reporter), is hilarious.
No, we do not have a nationwide network. We WILL, however, add a 6:30 PM local newscast beginning mid September, in addition to the News at Ten. As for the Morning News, Nash, I am never up in time to watch it, so cannot comment. You mean, you don't like Jill Nicolini, who is one of the stars on the show? :)
And Chuck, The Boss segment is very cool, I agree.

As for the Morning News, Nash, I am never up in time to watch it, but it's really a good show! I know all the guys who work on it, and they are a terrific team.. You mean, you don't like Jill Nicolini, suki, john, linda church and larry hoff? ! Give it another chance :) But I stay with US at 10, okay?

Hi Kaity, Thanks for the great news
about the 6:30pm newcast because
I'm assuming we get to see more
of you.
Now I have to watch the Family Guy
just to see what you're all
talking about.
Btw, another fun blog!
The photo of you from the past
just shows you never have a bad
hair day. :)
Dear Kaity,
Thank you so much for this passage. Now I have proof when I tell my ex-wife you are the sexist and most beautiful woman on the air in New York for the last 20 years. I love All your outfits and hair styles.
Dear Kaity,
I think you look amazing no matter which decade your hairstyle subscribes to. You are the best-dressed, best-informed and most sincere anchorperson out there!
p.s. LOVE your jewelry lately too!

Oops! So sorry it posted too many times--my bad!
Great flashback from the past Kaity, wow. You don't age. We should all aspire to having a fountain of youth in our homes. :D
Nash, I totally agree. PIX morning news is... yeah. There's no rapport like there is on the nightly newscast. Though there is Larry. Without Larry (oh and Tuesday's ASPCA cam) I wouldn't watch it.
And Trisha Takanawa, I always though it was just a generalization of the stereotypical Asian reporter? Not that it's not hilarious, if it's true (that it may be parodied off Kaity) then I now know another Family Guy fact.
Hey kaity,
Watch you and Jim every night on TV. Hair looks good, Blog is great and especially enjoy when you visit Chinatown and report on happenings there.
Listen girl, you look great now and great back then. The times change and so do our looks. Only you keep getting better looking all the time. How do you do that? And another recipe? Could this fan club get any luckier? We don't think so! Most of us work on Wall Street. No wonder the stock market is going up!
Hi Kaity, I would like to say something in regards to Govenor P., I think his cause is justified. I am in the Hamptons and you won't belive the racism, bias and complete disrespect for the law out here especailly by those that enforce the law ... cops that let women get away out a ticket for wearing a ticket solely because they say they had a breast job ... then pulling someone over for making a legal K-turn ... town officals that rob the village and town of money and get off scott free ... would you believe there is a KKK branch out here ... so in regards to Govenor P., I do feel that he plight is somewhat justified but it seems that being and having different beliefs in this world is what keeps everyone on a float .. I just want to ask this question to people ... what would the God that you believe in think about your inside hatred ... if you don't believe in God how do you sleep at night ... also note the hamptons is an area where the substance abuse is the highest in NY ... that why I volunteer to try and teach children that no matter what you econimic situation is what nationallity you are you are special ... sorry to put some many trains of thought in such a sparatic way ... be well and do good deeds ... for at the end of the day it is you that would have to give account for your actions ... an mantra I was brought up beliveing
