No Foolproof Solutions
So after billions of dollars spent on better airport security and more effective screening of airline passengers, the system breaks down over one guard wandering away from his post for a few seconds??
As you’re seeing on the news tonight, that appears to be what happened at Newark Airport on Sunday. A security checkpoint guard walked away from his post for a few seconds, a guy slid past the checkpoint desk for a few extra moments with his departing sweetheart, and a major international airport terminal had to virtually shut down on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
It’s simple proof that even the most complex and expensive security system is only as strong as its weakest link(s). In this case, an inattentive guard; in the case of the Christmas Day bombing attempt on a Northwest Airlines jet, some person or persons who didn’t connect what in retrospect were quite visible dots about the likely intentions of the suspected terrorist. In his televised address this afternoon about the intelligence failures surrounding the Christmas plot, President Obama pledged “significant investment” in better screening and security tools. That’s fine, but after what we’ve seen the last two weeks, something else he said is resonating even more with me tonight: “There is no foolproof solution.”

You can have the most sophisticated security system, but it is only has strong as the individuals facilitating said system.
Alarming, but true nonetheless.
This all comes down to the TSA cutting back on the man power. when this all started a few years ago they hired 100's of men and woman for the job and once things got quiet, here comes the desk jockies making suggesting cutbacks to save money. So were do you think the cuts happen on the security the least payed employees who face the public on a day to day basis. That guard who walked away most likly had to go to relieve himself but since they don't have enough guards they most likely told him to wait, why because a sgt. or high up don't do that type of work its below them.
An as far as the cctv not working its because i am sure they made cuts there also this is the way they think they are taping why do we need a body watching cameras. If they had someone watching the cameras they would have seen what happen an could have alerted other guards to proceed. I know this because that is what i did untill i was cutback.
I agree with James P. Piccoli's statement that "a security system is only as strong as the individuals who facilitate said system.
Individual performance reviews if conducted properly and regularly, should weed out those people who are inefficient or slacking in their individual job/work performance.

got an interesting line from Obama
"So in addition to tightening airport security and improving coordination of intelligence, Obama said the U.S. will try to help Muslims worldwide get education and jobs so they can live in peace."
Obama should fire Napolitano AND himself for continue stupidity and fail to understand the nature of terrorism.
The guy who tried to set off a bomb on the plane in Christmas is NEITHER poor or uneducated, same goes for the terrorists who carried out attack these years. Many of them have degrees and good salary.
Terrorism's root is from the radical Islamic ideology, or Islam Jihadism with the Nazi style propaganda which promotes hatred against the Jews, the west and America.
People just don't get it (or don't want to get it since it is not PC). Improving airline security is just the the very surface of the problem, it is a long shot from the core issue that many people don't want to touch.
How long do we have to continue kidding ourselves and let PC kills us?
If I were president, I could end this whole terrorism business with one sentence. I'd simply announce to the world,
"One more attack by a moslem against America or our allies anywhere in the world, and we'll nuke Mecca."
That should do the trick. I might also say,
"If bin Laden isn't handed over to us within 7 says, we will wipe Mecca off the face of the Earth."
And I'd gladly carry out these threats, too. This country no longer knows how to fight a war anymore. If we'd fought Germany and Japan the way we're now fighting al-Qaeda, we'd all be speaking German and eating seaweed now.
I don't think radical Muslims give a damn about these words. And it is not a formal war like blitzkrieg back then, it is a whole new format of terrorism, which has no a set country to fight, nor a set location, they can strike any time, anywhere if they are not stopped. And they don't care who they killed, nor for the Geneva convention.
Military action will only solve still the surface of the problem. As long as they are still promoting the hatred, they will keep coming.
More importantly, as long as we are still playing PC, we are going nowhere, and fighting a war we can't win because we are afraid to offend people by going after the core of the problem.
We didn't afraid we would offend the Nazis by saying Hitler and Nazism was evil back then, we should the same today for the same hatred to Jews and the west.
Sorry, KC, but I disagree with you totally.
Radical Moslems DO care about Mecca and Medina and all their other 'holy' cities. All Moslems do, whether radical or moderate. I won't be offering mere words; I'd carry the threat out, and, if necessary, continue dropping little presents on their 'holy' cities until they give in -- and, believe me, they will.
Japan was far stronger than these sand dogs are, and just as fanatical, but a couple of atomic bombs changed their attitude.
