Michael Jackson: A Merciful Ending?
There's a tacky old sexist joke that goes something like this:
Q: Why do men typically die five years before their wives?
A: Because they want to.
Hearing more about the tortured final years and months of Michael Jackson's life, I can't help but thinking the reason he died this week at age 50, is because at least somewhere inside of him, he wanted to.

I offer that speculation because of the contrast between how Jackson was living, and what he was planning to do next in his life. ABC News is reporting today that the singer was addicted to OxyContin, a wicked strong pain medication:
How powerful is it?
"...the National Drug Intelligence Center reports that OxyContin abusers may use heroin if their insurance will no longer pay for their OxyContin prescription.."
Add to that the reports today that he was also getting daily shots of Demerol, and you're talking about a person in the deep throes of an excruciating and debilitating addiction. People who saw Jackson in the final weeks of his life say he had undergone a frightening weight loss, and appeared more frail than ever.
And yet, what was he going to be doing in a few weeks? Launching a series of 50 arena concerts in a foreign country, each one demanding two hours of full scale singing and dancing. It would be a difficult task for a 50-year-old in perfect health. Knowing what we know now about Jackson's physical state, it must have seemed all but impossible that he could pull it off.
Somewhere, deep down, he must have known that himself. With the pressure building, and the addiction raging, something had to give. Yes, it's a tragedy that this immensely talented person has left us. But maybe, just maybe, it brought a merciful end to Michael Jackson's pain and loneliness, before it all got even worse.

I agree. All the physical and mental demand from high energy singing and dancing is pretty hard even on a healthy 50 years old man, so let alone MJ, who is having problem with his body, and have a dependency on some drugs.
I don't know, even if he is going to die, would it be better if he can at least finish off the show in London first?
Seems that the brightest stars always burn out the quickest.
Michael Jackson had the determination to become who he is - a legend, and I think he thought he had it in him to do those 50 concert dates.
I suffer from several injuries and have been prescribed nerve medication and pain killers. Even though the pain can be debilitating, I try not to take the pills and try to deal with the pain as best I can. I was not prescribed Oxycontin nor would I fill it if the doctor prescribed it, because I know the possible consequences.
Everyone handles pain differently, and I think we have to remind ourselves that Michael didn't have a childhood and he was dealing with the pain of that and the pain of being abused by his father along with the physical pain. He was also the ultimate professional and was trying to go through with his tours.
That is much to deal with as a healthy robust person, which Michael Jackson was not.
Watching his interviews, you could see a real child like innocence in him. He was a sweet shy guy thrust into the spotlight at a young age. He'll live forever in our hearts and through his music. Rest in peace, Michael Jackson
He is finally at peace where no one/ thing can hurt him anymore.
As more and more facts come out, it looks like MJ did have tons of health problems these years, so his death is not really a surprise. It is just that the problems are hidden from the public.
I have been a fan of Michael Jackson and his brothers, since I was a little girl. In my dreams I was going to marry one of them boys.Thru the years we have seen so such talent from these men and I am gratful for being hear to see them. MJ was a blessing from GOD, that he gave to us for a short time, but we should be glad that we had him no matter how long it was for. I will always have my memories of MJ and his brohers. There concerts were great. I will always love the Jackson brothers.
