She's back! : Kaity steps in... again

AHA! My dear co-anchor has gone on vacation, leaving his blog unprotected. I feel a compulsion to once again HIJACK his blog. This is turning out to be kinda fun.

I just read Jim's recent musings on joining Facebook. (refer to "Social Networking? Me????")

As much as I hate to admit it, Jim and I are scarily similar. I, too, have known in the deepest recesses of my heart, that I would never ever run in the NYC marathon or climb Mt. Everest. Or ever want to. I am probably the most unathletic person you could hope to meet. So why would I want to inconvenience those poor sherpas who would end up carrying me up the mountain...and back... with all my gear. Sherpas must have better things to do. Like texting and blogging.

(Side note: Speaking of not having an athletic bone in my body, I cannot swim. And I attended an all-women's college on the East Coast that had a 150-year-old tradition of not permitting any student who did not pass the swim test to graduate, no matter how good their grades!

Believe me, they tried. It got to the point where the instructors would whack my fingers, desperately clinging to the side of the deep end of the pool, with sticks, to get me to let go. They kept screaming at me, "Float! ANYBODY can learn how to FLOAT!" Well, apparently not me. I proved to be too big a challenge, even for seasoned professional swim instructors at a respected center of learning.

Finally, in frustration, the college made an exception for me. The first, and probably the only, exception in its long and proud history. No one could graduate without passing the swimming test, so, I had to pass a WRITTEN swimming test. Yep. "Describe the breast stroke. What are the principles of treading water?..." Yada, yada, yada. Hard to believe, I know, but it's all true. I even managed to graduate with honors! )

Anyway, as for the marathon, I take vicarious pleasure in the endeavors every year of my colleague Mr. G, who is a running fanatic. In total, he's run 25 consecutive NYC marathons. He finally stopped this year, because of something to do with his foot. And a groin injury. He told us on the air one night, about what exactly is wrong with him, and frankly, I don’t know about you, but for me it was way too much information.

The point being, after reading my pal Jim’s blog about social networking, I realized the guy has upped the ante! No sooner do I hijack his blog… for just one night, mind you… he gets all competitive on me, and now he has joined Facebook! And because he has awakened the beast in me, I now feel the pressure of keeping up. So Facebook it is.

I don’t even know how the darn thing works. It just sounds unhealthy, like opening your apartment door to any ol’ person who wants to come in and rummage through your underwear drawer. But I shouldn’t start in on it, until I actually know what the hell I am talking about.

When Jim says he has no friends, he is not kidding. Did any of you see that promo that we run every once in a while? The one that looks classy 'cause it’s in black and white, and Jim is heard saying (over lovely stills of the two of us together) that “Kaity (me) is not just my co-anchor, she’s my BEST FRIEND!”

I KNOW!!!! (Apologies to Craig Ferguson)

I was as shocked to hear that as anyone. Because I didn’t realize I was Jim best friend. I like the guy a LOT, we ARE friends, but BEST friends????? My heart just broke.

So, I am glad that Jim has gotten therapy or something, and realizes he cannot be a hermit, and that he cannot have just me as a friend. Facebook is the solution to a very big problem for Jim. How else can a person like him accumulate so many friends from all around the world, and not have to meet a single one, in person. It's brilliant. Now, if he can just figure out how it works. Then, he can teach me. His best friend. Or not.

Kaity, you are this close to making my milk come out of my nose. Okay it wasn't quite so close, but it was pretty Laugh Out Loudness... or 'LOL'. I suppose you must learn some of this internet lingo if you want to get acquainted with social networking sites.

Well maybe you don't think of Jim as your bff (best friend) but maybe Jim regards you as his, that or PIX's making us believe that and in a sense you both are breaking *my* heart. :P

And final note, I think Jim'd be a little more popular had he not hidden himself. What a tease!!

You need to blog more, you're Jim's more comical blogside. Thanks.

Kaity's blog is so much fun! I want to hear more1

Kaity, you are just TOO funny! I've been checking Jim's blog several times a day in hopes of finding a new post and here you are! I think you should up the ante on him...start your own blog before he returns from his therapy, or holiday break, whichever it is.

Kaity...you are so witty! I'd love to see you with your own blog. I know SO many people who would love to read it! oh, and get facebook, too!

Kaity, you are without doubt the wittiest and most likeable television newsperson in the business. Alright, so you can't swim and you don't want to be the 800th person to climb Mt. Everest. But please stay on the air and in our living rooms long into the future; the news may be bleak, but you have the gift of optimism to help cheer us up. And now, a blog opens up and you may continue your good work, extending it to the virtual world. Try facebook too if you like.

Kaity, it's a real pleasure to discover that your scintillating personality comes through in your writing as well as on the air. We love the way you and Jim connect with us and everyone in the city every night, and your blogs, albeit only two so far, give us another enjoyable Kaity dimension.
More blogs, and soon!

More blogging, Kaity! My wife and I need our Kaity fix, and this is a great way to get it whenever we want.

Kaity,
Kaity, you are the sexist women on television, and by far the most witty.
Happy New Year to you and yours.

Kaity, you and Jim are the best team in the city. You are the most attractive and believable face and voice in local news, and you and Jim have a really enjoyable energy. See you on facebook!

Wow, you need your own blog, Kaity! You're so witty! I literally laughed out loud, reading this. I'm a loyal PIX 11 News viewer, and I just think this is so great, you guys are way classier than WNYW and WWOR-even WABC. It would be cool if us viewers could connect with both you and Jim, I know a station in Florida called WTSP does that.

Hey guys! Thanks for the nice comments on my 'hijack blogs!' I'm so glad you are getting a kick out of it.
But,I'm not sure my bff Jim is so enamored of it. I am surprised, because he really is just the coolest cat around. But for some reason, it seems to ruffle his handsome feathers when I do my 'hijack' thing.
Aw. He'll come around. That's why we're pals. In the meantime, maybe I'll go hijack someone ELSE's blog. Like the Sports Blog. Yeah! That's an idea!

yes, you are witty kaity.. I knew there was areason i was drawn to you.I'm not into females, and I'm married, but as I've watched the news on 11, you and Jim just tickle me. As a pair, you're like PBnJ.. it can't be any other way. Please stay his friend, no matter how currently untrue the "best friend" aspect is; make it work Kaity. I love you guys.As for the swimming story, why am I not surprised? You seem like someone who would take the cake at being in an original and never-before situation, all while doing it effortlessly, and elegantly in your black :)
