Help Me Howard Joins Search For Missing Mom
Where is Jamaica Smith?
The family of 36-year old Jamaica Smith has been torn apart since last week. It all began last Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, when Jamaica took her six-year old daughter to school in Jamaica, Queens.
She dropped her little girl off and was never seen or heard from again.
Sisters Lola and Sonia Vereen say they realizaed something was up that morning when Jamaica failed to meet with the contractor who is renovating their mother's house.
Lola said, "My sister told me Jamaica didn't come home. I called her cellphone , no answers".
Jamaica had recently moved home to New York from Tennesse and was working as a hairdresser. That night when there was still no sign of her, the family called police.
Police told them that because Jamaica is an adult, they had to wait 24-hours before filing a missing persons report. They did that the very next day and waited for news.
Sadly, Thanksgiving came and went with no word about Jamaica and by Monday they were desperate, so they called Help Me Howard.
Howard met with the family and that's when they told him about a man who they say had been bothering Jamaica. According to Sonia, on several occasions this man had approached Jamaica at her daughter's school, when she was dropping off the child.
He would tell her how pretty she was and how much he wanted to take her out on a date. Jamaica had said she was not interested, but appeared not to have given it anymore thought or concern.
For the past week, family and friends have been posting flyers with pictures of Jamaica, hoping anyone with any information will come forward and tell police.
If you have any information about Jamaica and or her whereabouts, please contact the NYPD's Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or send a text message to "CRIMES," (274637), then enter "TIP577".
