Find Out What You Can Do To Help Save Darwin Ramos.

Darwin Ramos is a 21 year old immigrant, originally from Ecuador.

Last year he was diagnosed with Accute Lymphositic Leukemia. It's a rare form of leukemia, in which the bone marrow is infected by immature cells. His blood count is dangerously low now, which can cause fatal complications.

Right now Darwin is getting chemotherapy, but doctors say his only hope to survive is a bone marrow transplant.

Unfortunately Darwin has two major things working against him. First, none of his family members is a donor match. Second, he has no insurance and his family does not have the money to pay for such an expensive procedure.

Social workers at St. Michael's Medical Center, where Darwin is receiving treatment, decided to call Help Me Howard for help.

Howard decided to tell Darwin's story in hopes that people would be willing to get tested and hopefully someone would be a match and become a donor. This is literally a case of life or death for Darwin.

If you would like to get tested to see if you are a match for Darwin, there will be a Bone Narrow Screening/Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 16th from 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM at Mother Schervier Hall. 268 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Newark, New Jersey 07102

If you would like to make a financial donation to Darwin's treatment, please make checks payable to St. Michael's Medical Center, (Darwin Ramos MR# 705315)

For more information, please call Oncology Social Worker Joanne Rodriguez at (973) 877-2967

I saw your story on the bone marrow transplant patient, I am a mother of a 32 yr old girl who is in need of a transplant. I have worked with the ICLA DASILVA FOUNDATION, in Long Island City in search of a donor for her. We have done many drives and held a fundraiser event to give back to the foundation please contact Mr Airam DaSilva at 212-593-1807 Perhaps his foundation can be of help. They have many contacts, especially for the people of hispanic decent. I hope this will be of some help and my prayers go out to the family, never give up hope. They have a doner for our daughter and her transplant will be coming soon after christmas. God bless him & hemust keep up hope. You can call me 631-848-7815 is my cell number.

I'd love to be screened to see if I'm a match for this young man. Unfortunately, I just can't make it out to NJ the day of the screening. Please keep me posted if you expand the screening to NYC. In the meantime, I've shared the story with all of my Facebook friends and asked them to pass it on. I hope this helps and I truly hope he finds a match. Everyone deserves a chance at life.

I've been reading about umbilical cord blood over the past several years, and people getting well with cord blood transfusions. Doctors in Toronto began with this, now some doctors in U.S.
My prayers are with you!

Even if Darwin does not have medical insurance, he should be treated anyway! There is no excuse for not helping a sick person. Others have been helped, why not him?

Howard,I'm the maternal grandmother of three young boys that are currently in the New Jersey foster care system.I'm an ex-offender and recovering addict who has felonies dating back to 1994. One in particular is a 3rd degree aggravated assault and I've been told there is a legislative law that prohibits children being placed with anyone with charges of this nature. I've been advised to seek legal representation but am unable to afford it financially. I'm unsure if there are any exceptions to laws like these and if there's anyone who could represent me pro bono in an effort to keep my family together since at this point the children are closer to adoption than anyone would like to admit. Due to active addiction for more than two decades, I lost my children to adoption and without question failed them. I'm asking for your help in an effort to prevent the next generation from suffering the same demise.

I've always been the type of person who believes in treating people the way I want to be trated and would take great joy in helping Darwin. The problemm is I've been diagnosed with Hepititis C. I'm not suggesting that he get rid of one problem to endure another but I've been healthy for at least 15 yrs and know that if treated and monitored you can beat the odds, so if there's any way at all that I can be screened in an effort to help I would be honored.
