The Milbank Broken Elevator Saga Continues....

Two weeks ago we told you about the residents of 780 Garden Street in the Bronx, where disabled and elderly tenants were struggling to survive with an elevator that has been broken for six months.

That report brought us many calls, including calls from tenants of another Milbank Real Estate building, which also has a broken elevator. In fact, the elevator at this other Milbank-owned building hasn't had a working elevator for over a year!

Last week Howard paid a visit to those residents at 2427 Webster Avenue to check out their broken elevator situation.

Tenants there like Tony Perez are fed up with Milbank.

"They always have an excuse. They always say they have to get the piece...they always have an excuse for this. They never fix anything here! "

After numerous efforts to reach Milbank's Corporate office in California went ignored, Howard decided it was time to pay a visit to Milbank's local Bronx office for more answers.

That's where he again ran into Ray Radpardar, buildings manager. Ray's story was still the same song-and-dance. Ray says replacing broken elevators is a long, time-consuming process and residents are just going to have to be patient. But he was unable to give anything like a time frame or schedule for the repairs.

At this point, it was time to call the NYC Department of Buildings. That's where Howard found out that the Buildings Department is already very familiar with Milbank Real Estate and their elevator problem. In fact, in just this year alone, the city has already issued 18 violations against Milbank for those two buildings' elevators.

Their most recent violation hearing was in August and according to the Buildings Department, Milbank didn't even bother to show up. At this point, The NYC Buildings Department has begun pursuing criminal court actions against Milbank Real Estate.

Howard will continue to cover this story until both buildings have a working elevator.

I saw the segment that you had on Milbank Realty and i am so glad that are handling the problem. I previously lived at a building owned by Milbank and moved out because they were very irresponsible. They also own 2 buildings on Webb Ave, 273-2725. WhenI lived there i had a 2bdrm apt. on the fifth floor with a rent of $1100. They barely gave heat. My child who was six at the time was asthmatic. The walls in the bathroom had severe mildew because of leaks that were in the walls. I became pregnant with my 2nd child in 2007 and due to some difficulties was put on bedrest. I could no longer walk up the 5 flights that i needed to get to my apt. There were 15 empty apts throughout both buildings 2 of them on the first floor. My husband begged for them to let us move to one of the lower floor apts due to my disability. They refused to let us transfer to the first floor. He pleaded that our lease was up in the matter of 1 month. They had no heart and refused to give us a simple transfer to the first floor. We ended up having to move in a rush to a walk-in apt that was very expensive. I still live in the area and have recently heard that the tenants are still fighting for repairs. I am so glad you opened pandora's box on this company and hopefully things will be resolved.

FYI: Millbank Realty has been found negligiant on more then buildings recently that they have managing/owned and the city has taken those properties away from them. Criminal charges should be pursed. They believe that a dollar amount has more value then the welling being of innocent decent people..
