Beware Of Scams That Make You Call International

5:00AM | September 3, 2009 | comments: 1

For most international calls, you would have to dial "011" to dial a number outside of the U.S. But, keep in mind that's not ALWAYS the case!

There are locations outside the U.S. whose telephone numbers may look like domestic long-distance numbers, but are actually international numbers. For example, 809, 284, and 876 are area codes in the Caribbean.

If you call these countries, you can expect to see international rates on your next phone bill. So if a number looks suspicious, it's best to look up the area code before making the call, or answering the phone.

I always check with the phone company before I dial a strange number. To tell you the truth, I think the service was better when it was BELL TELEPHONE. I don't think that "information" 411 is very good anymore. They have given me wrong numbers many times. With some services you can call Canada, Puerto Rico and I'm not sure where else. You can also call Alaska and Hawaii, because it is part of the US. I get so frustrated when I get the WRONG number from the phone company! Maybe I should have contacted you Howard, since you seem to get things done right.
