Pamela wanted to have a baby shower for her daughter, but she didn't expect to wind up in court over a bounced check... and to top it all off, she really didn't expect to end up on television!

Pamela Kates paid $2,742 to have her daughter's baby shower at the Branch Brook Manor in East Orange, New Jersey.

"I came in Saturday night on the 18th of January," said Pamela. I checked my messages and ********* left me a message saying she really needed to talk to me, that the previous owner of the Branch Brook Manor had scheduled a wedding. She wanted to know if I could move my shower into a smaller room and I told her, 'No, I paid for the main ballroom and that is where I expect to have the shower.'"

That's when the hall's representative hung up on the phone on Pamela. And once party time rolled around, things didn't get any better:

"We showed up on Sunday at 3 o'clock for the shower," said Pamela. "We walked into the main ballroom and the colors were red and white. Our colors were pink and grey. She looked at me and I asked her why. She said she just couldn't do it and at the end of the baby shower she would give me a refund."

The representative from Branch Brook Manor accomodated Pamela and her guests, but in a smaller room. Instead of receiving the ten tables they planned on, only eight tables could fit into the smaller room. Rather than making a scene, Pamela accepted the reimbursement check offered to her at the end of the party.

"The check was for half the amount that I paid, which was $1,747, said Pamela. "And I didn't argue with ********* because I did have a shower there, and I was okay with the check that she wrote me."

Pamela deposited her check in January. Three days later, the check bounced! Pamela immediately took her case to small claims court and won her judgement for the $1,747. But come August, she was still out the money. That's when she called "Help Me Howard."

Howard paid the representative at Branch Brook Manor a visit. Unfortunately, the person we were going to see was in medical distress before we entered the establishment, and because of privacy issues, we cannot disclose what transpired there. But a week later, Pamela got her money back!

Howard returned to Branch Brook Manor a week later with flowers in hand, just to make sure this person was feeling better. But, he didn't get the warm welcoming he expected. Someone called the police on him!

Despite the whirlwind of issues, Howard did get some answers. The owner told us that she inherited the previous owners' debt and the bounced check was an oversight. We just wish everyone there good health... because that's all that really matters.

This doesn't surprise me, I'm very familiar with Branch Brook Manor and with the way they do business and this isn't the first nor the second time the manager has done something like this to its clients...surprisingly this person got her money back, because from other stories I've heard that didn't happen!

Howard you're the best!

I read your blog regularly and I wanna update with this news that Dish Network increased the number of HD channels by offering another 5 HD channels nationwide. That brings the total HD channel count up 40. The new HD channels are FX, SPEED, Fashion TV (FTV), Logo and MavTV. All these channels went live in Early May. Also, in June MSNBC HD will be added (briniging the number of HD channels to 140).
