How Long Should It Take to Repair A Computer?

Nora Ortiz is a New York Corrections Officer and uses her laptop for everything, from paying bills to keeping track of job responsibilities.

Back in April, her Hewlitt Packard laptop was acting up on her, so on April 29th she took it to a computer repair shop in Yonkers called "Compu Max".

They took Nora's laptop, charged her a repair fee and said it would be ready in a few weeks. So began months of delays and misunderstandings, as the repair job dragged on and on.

Nora has been to the shop as many as 12 times, each time expecting her laptop to be ready and each time they have given her a different reason for why it's not. From missing parts, to problems with the mother board to needing more time, Nora has heard them all.

Out of desperation she called Help Me Howard and Howard joined her up in Yonkers to find out what was taking so long.

At Compu Max, Mohammed told them that the problem with the computer was that Nora's computer model was outdated. According to him, HP doesn't make that model anymore and that was where the hold-up was.

After talking to Mohammed's supervisor, they agreed to loan Nora another computer until her's was ready. Nora agreed and took a Dell PC for the time being.

We thought the problem had been solved, but then a week later Nora e-mailed us, saying the computer on loan wasn't working either. So Howard contacted Compu Max...again. They assured us that Nora could bring that laptop back and they'd give her another one, so we're crossing our fingers this time.

Even the replacement laptop got problem, Looks like they didn't do a good job on QC on the laptops to make sure they work.
And it took those guys almost 3 months to deal with it? Should be no more than a week, even when something is wrong, like no parts from HP in this case, they still need to notify the customer instead of holding them in nowhere. For me, 2 or 3 chances, that's it, forget 12 times.
I did a much better tech service to my clients.

Don't be so fast to condemn, we don't know why the replacement failed. These guys gave her a replacement on a $65.00 repair, I think they deserve some credit. She might have picked up a virus, or abused the machine, we just don't know. I see a bigger problem here. She admits to doing all her finances and bill paying on the laptop. Not wise on a loaner machine. She will be back on the news as a victim of identity theft.

Yeah....I do agree with mike.
Inspite of taking another one for her temporary usage, its not good on her part to complain about the company. When researched , It's known that they have been in business since 10 long years with good reputation.
She just paid 63$, even when they are ready to replace motheboard ,which is very less amount for that.
I think the company should return her laptop unrepaired, because she couldn't wait when they were trying to help her and fix her problem.

i agree with tina & mike. I think the compumax has done the right thing. They should not give any replacement. once, i gave a laptop to be repaired, and now it is working PERFECTLY!
