Eye Doctor Prefers Giving Back, Instead Of Payback!

Serving Her Community is Priority One to this Dedicated Doctor.
Meet Doctor Monica Dweck. Vice Chair and Program Director, Director of Oculoplastic Surgery, Department of Opthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University and then attended medical school at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, where she now works.
Dr. Dweck is the first African-American woman to do her residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, in their entire 180 year history. She is also the first woman of color in the country to receive a fellowship in Oculoplastic Reconstructive and Orbital Surgery.
Dr. Dweck says her interest in medicine started when she was around five-years old and was also inspired by her late brother, who had a series of life long medical issues.
With impeccable talents like that Dr. Dweck could practice anywhere she wanted to, but instead this talented doctor prefers to stay put and serve the community that needs her the most. A community who's healthcare needs are often overlooked and usually unaffordable. Dr. Dweck believes in improving the quality of a patient's life, teaching the next generation of surgeons and serving the community where access to good healthcare isn't always available.
