"Goodfellas" pizza defends their title!
The award-winning pizza maker calls in Help Me Howard to take on their competition.
"Goodfellas" pizza on Staten Island is a pizza institution. For years they've been winning the title of "Best Pizza in the World" at the Annual International Pizza Expo, that's held every year in Las Vegas.
They just won the title again for 2009 and have proudly displayed a banner outside their establishment proclaiming their win.
But to their surprise, another pizza maker and competitor in the area, by the name of "Il Pomodora" has also hung up the very same banner, proclaiming themselves winners of the "Best Pizza in the World" title. The one exception to their banner is that their's bears a small word, written in parenthesis that reads "finalist", which is too small for most people to read, unless up close.
When the guys at "Goodfellas" saw that banner, they called Help Me Howard to come in and set things right.
Turns out the owner of "Il Pomodora" used to work at "Goodfellas", so there's a long history there that has carried over into a very healthy competition. Howard went out to Staten Island to talk to both sides and everyone came away friends.
Though "Il Pomodora" refuses to take the banner down, the gang at "Goodfellas" felt better that Help Me Howard came out to support them and let everyone know that they are still the "Best Pizza in the World".

I also own a pizzeria on Staten island and I was present at the Vegas pizza show goodfellas won handsdown il pomodoro got in as a wild card. being in the business I know a lot about other operators and I can tell you that The guys from il pomodoro are the worst people and the most distonest business operators around. they are always trying to screw there own customers,suppliers and any one else they can. I have several workers and customers who always tell of unbeliveable stories. I am sorry to say they that people even can bee like that. the stories on stuff they have done are horriable.Its about time some one called them out. you can google their name. I know their have been many complaints.

I worked at GoodFeallas and know both owners as well as the food. I was a waiter, busboy, driver, pizza Cooker through out mine time there and was present at the show when they one their first contest with the Vodka Pizza. There pizza was the best at the time. I had since went to college and moved to the Pittsburgh area and I always looked forward to goodfellas pizza.
My oppinion is that quality of the pizza is night and day from the days I worked there when compared to six months ago when i had it last. Now when I talk about the pizza I am referring to the Vodka and plane pizzas. It is my oppinion that the pizza dough is different and lacks the flavor it once had and the same can be said about the vodka sauce. I have spoken to individuals who work and other who have worked there in the past. They reported that that sauce was not bought (vodka) and not made on site. I can have not confirmed it with the owners but the taste definately support this. Due to this I have stopped going to GF to my great loss because the memories working there as well as the food were grate...That has all changed! I hope GF gets back to their roots...... To Joe Calcogno, I know Jimmy well because he was the main pizza man while I worked there and his is a good person and your personal attachs makes you appear to be a shrill rather than a objective observer. I have not had Jimmies pizza, but it must have been good to get into the finals, wild card or not........
I hope they both do well in these hard economic times.
I have had nothing but great food at pomodoro. Their pizza blows away goodfellas. Plain and simple.
Il Pomodora is a sore loser and has to lie in order to get publicity. Good Fellas won fair and square, so just accept it and stop the false advertising. SHAME ON YOU!

Il pomodoro LOST the contest and put up a sign that misleads the public into thinking that they won. I even called Il pomodoro up and they said that THEY won and that Goodfellas won last year.
IF THEY ARE LYING ABOUT THAT - THEN I BET THEY ARE LYING ABOUT WHAT THEY PUT ON YOUR PLATE. Its owned by 2 rotten people. Ramos who worked at Joe and Pats and basically stole their pizza. And Jimmy who worked at a place for 8 years - GOODFELLAS - and then opened up a place right across the stree. Hey, there are a lot of rotten people in the world and the last people I would give my money to are the rotten freaks at Il Pomodoro.
Goodfellas has the best pizza and the best staff around. They deserved to win. If you call Il Pom, they say they won and Goodfellas lost.
The owner is a very crappy person, who was terrible to my family and friends when I bought a party of ten to his restaurant for a get together. He offered us a family style meal deal and then charged us off the menu nearly doubling our bill.
The next month we went to Goodfellas and had the best time of our lives. We now go back every two weeks!
Goodfella's has awesome pizza! Everythings fresh and unbelievable..staff is friendly as well. I recommend to all!

i have heard from many people in service that they will never eat any food from il pomodoro from the looks of their kitchen, bugs and who knows what else. plus the owner is a sneaky and dishonest. so i would stay away. deninos and joe and pats best
