Promotional Modeling...The Do's and Dont's

What happens when 3 promotional models are hired to promote a new Mexican beer? Well, usually it sounds like a good time is about to be had by all. And it usually is... Come on, we're talking models and beer here! That combination is supposed to be fun...it shouldn't end up with hurt feelings and no paychecks.

That's exactly what happened to the three young ladies who walked into our studio last week. During the holidays they were hired by a New Jersey beer distributor to hustle some new swill from south of the border!

They were supposed to get 20 dollars an hour, but according to the guy who hired them all they got was drunk! I'm tell'n ya folks, you can't make this stuff up.

The models say, that's not exactly what happened. They say they worked hard and made friends with the patrons at the clubs and liquor stores and didn't get payed for their efforts!

Lessons to be learned here for all of you with an attraction to the entertainment business. No contract..No work! Try to get some money up front. If your demands are not met, don't take the gig! Never be afraid to walk away and most importantly...THINK!

Howard and CH11 News Staff,
I truly want to thank you for all of your help with this situation. It helped me realize that you can not depend on a verbal agreement alone. I will make sure that I have my contract signed before the beginning of any future modeling arrangements. You Better Believe It America!!! I have learned my lesson! The world is an evil maze and never again will this young lady be trapped! Channel 11 you are #1 in my Book! Literally!

I learned this long ago. I am also in the entertainment business and will always present a contract to spell out the services rendered and what I will be compensated. I do not always get paid up front, but I make sure the contract is legally binding.
Good Luck in future endeavors, Jessica!

Im extremely upset about the whole situation, Im just glad Howard helped us for putting this company in shame. They didn"t pay us and we've worked long hrs on our feet with no breaks. This is the last time I will work with no contract. If the beer is $3 a six pack you already know is NO GOOD. Thank You Howard.
