Jennifer Lopez found a modest apartment that would fit her needs, and although she had some suspicions, handed over $1,600 to what she thought was a bona fide real estate broker.
Lopez thought her new apartment was registered for the federally subsidized section 8 program, but to her dismay, it was not.
When she tried to remedy the situation with her broker, the situation spun into a series of lies, half truths, and unreturned phone calls.
