Date Night For Less Than A Pair Of Jeans

Wafels%20and%20Dinges.jpg
New York Street Food

Last time I went to the movies, I was astounded by how much it costs. Between the popcorn, soda and tickets for two, I was out 50 big ones! That's right, $50!

Movie ticket prices keep going up...And while I love mindless entertainment, that $50 could be spent elsewhere, especially in a city like this. There is so much to do in this city. From free comedy shows (some are actually good) to cheap dinners (don't even utter McDonald's), here's a complete date night for less than it costs for a night at the movies.

Sandra Bullock's Lesbian Lip Lock (And How To Spin Her Style)

Sandra Bullock takes home a Moonman at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. She won the MTV Generation Award. Bullock kept thing classy and said she just wants to get back to normal after that mess with her cheating husband Jesse James. America's Sweetheart sparkled in a black backless micro-mini dress by Oday Shakar. She kept the rest of her look chic and elegant with a simple ponytail, diamond studs and coral colored lipstick.

The moon man wasn't the only thing Bullock won...She also won a kiss from Scarlett Johansson.

Sex And The City 2 Movie Premiere Inspired Looks

SATC%20FIX.jpg

Last night was the red carpet premiere of "Sex and The City 2" at Radio City Music Hall. All the ladies were fashionable as usual.

Sarah Jessica Parker was a beautiful ray of sunshine in a yellow Valentino gown; Cynthia Nixon looked stunning on the red carpet with a body hugging Carolina Herrera black gown; Kim Cattrall wore a fabulous-at-fifty gold Naeem Khan gown; And Kristen Davis was pretty in pink in a Jean Desses for Decades gown.

As much as we want to look like the SATC crew, few of us have the need for a gown; You can get similar looks...but at reasonable price and in styles you will actually wear more than once.

I Heart Thakoon

spring%201.jpg

Thakoon is one of my favorite designers. I love his point of view. His clothing makes me happy to be a girl. His flirty dresses make me want to jump up and down while listening to a drag queen belt out her rendition of Aretha Franklin. I snagged one of his shirts recently from Tokio 7. I was super stoked.

The Thai-born, Omaha-raised designer is ridiculously talented. Everyone from first lady Michelle Obama to Sarah Jessica Parker has sported his designs.

NYC Welcome's Nordstrom Rack

I know where I will be spending my afternoon---Nordstorm Rack.

The high-end department store opened up a wallet friendly Nordstorm Rack in Union Square today. Nordstorm Rack gives fashionistas the same quality as style as Nordstorm, but at a much smaller price. Basically, Nordstorm's Rack is an outlet store. New Yorkers can finally get outlet prices without going to Woodbury Commons.

The Rack opened up in the old Virgin Megastore. Although I am super stoked about Rack, I'm not excited about having more people to plow through when I'm in Union Square. Needless to say, I can not wait to check it out!

Sing, Sing, Sing

twenties1.jpg

I am feeling inspired by 1920's fashion. Maybe it's because I have a feather sticking out of my hair, but I just spent the last hour trying to figure out the band that performs a song I like. Turns out it is called "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Benny Goodman. Nonetheless, if you want to get your 20's on...here are my PIX!

Drinks...
Shhh...Please Don't Tell...If you are as cool as I hope you are, you already know where I am going with this! PDT is probably my favorite speakeasy bar right now...The drinks are super tasty and made by a mixologist who takes drinks as serious as I do. Plus, there is something about going through a hot dog shop to get to a "secret" bar that gets me all excited!

How To Score A Free Haircut!

New York City is an expensive place to live...No one knows this better than I do! Between rent for an apartment that's the size of a minivan, a metrocard for an unreliable train, food (I have a cupcake addiction) and clothes, I barely have enough money left for a haircut.

But did you know that you can still update your look even when your pockets are empty? There are a ton of salons where you can go and score a free haircut! The only requirement---become a hair model!

Bumble and bumble
Bumble and bumble offers free hair cuts and free styling. It does everything from short layers to a razor bob. The cuts aren't limited to just people with straight tresses, Bumble and bumble can also handle curlies. To sign become a hair model, go to www.bbumodelproject.com and fill out a pre-evaluation form. If your hair is what a stylist is looking for, they will send you an invite.

Who Is Femi And Why Does She Have A Fashion Blog?

β€œIn order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” Coco Chanel

When Coco Chanel started designing clothes, people thought she was crazy. Not just because she went from hat designer to clothing designer, but because she made menswear inspired women's clothing. In 1913, people weren't designing clothes for women's comfort, and they especially weren't designing women's clothes to look like men's. But she did - not because she was trendy or fashionable, but because she had her own personal style.

I think sometimes people get stylish, fashionable and trendy confused. I'm not going to explain the difference, because quite frankly, I don't want to. But I suspect the people who get them confused won't like my blog. And I'm OK with that.

Finding The Perfect Polish To Flatter Your Skin Tone

polish%20try%201.jpg

I had the sudden urge to change my nail polish yesterday. I was wearing OPI's Pompeii Purple, which looks great on my skin, but I wanted something different. I went to Ricky's (AKA beauty supply Heaven) and bought Essie's Tart Deco. Not a color I normally wear, but it was on sale and it looked fun.

I put the polish on but removed it less than five minutes later! The orange looked awful on my brown skin so I am now polish-less. To ensure my polish drama never happens again, I hooked up with Np2 nail polish to get some tips on choosing the perfect color to compliment every skin tone.

Fair Skin Tones

Try a red like Np2's Electric Charge or a bright pink like Np2's Positive Integer. These colors look very chic and elegant on fair skin.

Warm Weather Means Spring Fashion!

Spring is my favorite time of year. For people with curly hair (like me), it's the only time when their hair actually remains straight after they flat iron it. Plus, it's not beach weather just yet, but the sunshine is a reminder to start going to the gym so that you look somewhat decent on the beach. And, most importantly, it's warm enough to start wearing all the spring fashions that have been in stores since February... In my case, peep-toe boots!

Here are some of the latest styles I am eying at the moment. And don't worry about affordability, I've included some less expensive options.

Don't eat ramen noodles for these pants...
