No Surprise! Anders Will Be A Bad Guy On The Vampire Diaries!

True to every major character he has played recently on TV, David Anders will arrive in Mystic Falls on April 15th as a no-goodnik. David Anders is always the bad guy and it will be no different on The Vampire Diaries, Anders will play Jonathan Gilbert, the uncle of Elena and Jeremy. When Jonathan Gilbert first pops up, it will be to sell Elena and Jeremy's father's medical office. According to an article published in Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Kevin Williamson says there is more than meets the eye to the elder Gilbert. "He has to sign the escrow papers but he isn’t quite ready to give the office up,” said Williamson. “But like everyone else in town, he’s there for something [else]. His intentions are not pure.”
Anders is perhaps best known for his role as the devious Sark on Alias and had a memorable story arc during season 2 of Heroes as the not quite immortal villain Adam Monroe. Anders recently completed a stint as terrorist Josef Bazhaev on 24.

Some cool casting choices are being made over at The CW.

David Anders (who is best known for his role as Sark on Alias and from more recent roles on both Heroes and 24) has joined the cast of The Vampire Diaries. Anders will play Jonathan Gilbert, Elena and Jeremy's uncle beginning on April 15th.
Maggie Q is in talks to star as Nikita in the CW pilot of the same name. Nikita is a new take on La Femme Nikita, the hit film and cable network series. Maggie Q is no stranger to the action genre having appeared in such adrenaline charged blockbusters as Mission Impossible III, Rush Hour II and Live Free Or Die Hard!
Sean Faris has been chosen to headline Amy Sherman Palladino's Wyoming-based soap pilot. Faris who has appeared on such TV shows as Reunion and Life As We Know It is best known to CW fans for his most recent role of Ben McKittrick on The Vampire Diaries.
Finally, congrats to Gillian Zinser who plays Ivy Sullivan on 90210. She has just been promoted to a series regular on the show!
The CW Renews 5 Shows!

The CW has given early pick-ups to five series, guaranteeing that they will be around next fall with all-new episodes.
The five series are:
America's Next Top Model
Gossip Girl
Supernatural
Vampire Diaries
90210
The network cited strong ratings as the reason for the early renewals.
Still waiting word on whether they will be back for another season are such shows as

The CW will announce its fall schedule during upfront season in mid-May.

Vampire Diaries Flashback Sneak Preview!

Want to know what happened way back in 1864 to make Damon promise Stefan an "eternity of misery?" Then you're going to want to watch Children Of The Damned, tonight's flashback episode of The Vampire Diaries. In the clip below, executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec share some backstage insight into tonight's installment. Also, check out a couple of sneak preview clips and don't forget to tune in tonight at 8pm for the rest!
More CW Pilot News!

Tom Welling (Smallville's Clark Kent) is the producer of a pilot commissioned by The CW for a possible slot on next fall's schedule. Welling's show is called Hellcats and is a comedy-drama set in the world of competitive cheerleading. Kevin Murphy (who has written for such series as Desperate Housewives and The CW's cult favorite Reaper) wrote the pilot and will co-executive produce with Welling.
The CW also continues to mine ideas for new series from the world of literature (see such success stories as Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries). That's the case with Tara Bray Smith's novel Betwixt which may be making a leap from bookshelves to your flat screen this fall. This pilot is a story about good and evil in which urban changelings protect humans from bad stuff! Sounds like it would slot in really well with Supernatural and the aforementioned Vampire Diaries, no?
The CW has now committed to producing five pilots so far, including Hayden Panettiere's HMS, as well as last week's announcement of Nikita and Amy Sherman-Palladino's unnamed Wyoming-set family drama.
Interview With A Vampire. Vampire Diaries Cast Talks To PIX!

In spite of frigid temperatures that hovered in the low 20's, the masses turned out in force at Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ on Saturday afternoon to meet and greet Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder -- the stars of The CW's immensely popular drama, The Vampire Diaries. A contingent of fans nearly 6,000 strong converged at the mall to attend the sold-out Hot Topic Vampire Diaries Mall Tour in-store event.

Wesley, a New Jersey native said he was glad to be back in his home state and flattered by the turnout, which he called "insanely surreal," a sentiment echoed by his on-screen brother played by Ian Somerhalder who commented that "afterlife is kind of fun."
"There's a lot of support for the show and so hopefully we can just keep doing what we're doing and people will like it as much as we do," said Somerhalder.

Of course, the overwhelmingly positive response has its downside (or upside...depending on how you choose to look at it) as Wesley told PIX' Andrew Ramos that Somerhalder often gets requests from female fans to bite them, something that Somerhalder wouldn't get into as he jokingly cited the legal issues involved.
In terms of spoilers, the threesome were very cagey about revealing where the season is headed.
"Until we open (the tomb) we certainly don't want to reveal anything. We don't want to talk about what's gonna happen because that's really gonna be a big dramatic event," said Wesley. "And because (executive producer) Kevin WIlliamson would cut our...," said Somerhalder, finishing Wesley's thought. 'Nuff said.
Nina Dobrev, the attractive 21-year-old Canadian who plays both Elena and Katherine did add that "a lot is happening. Everyone's kind of figuring out who they can trust (and) who they can't trust because they don't know who is and who is not a vampire."

The Vampire Diaries Plays Musical Stakes!
Last week's shocking death on The Vampire Diaries might have had a different look to it if Executive Producer Kevin Williamson had stuck to the original script.

When the sequence was shot several weeks ago, Stefan was not the guy that plunged the stake into Vicki. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, Kayla Ewell (who played Vicki) revealed that someone else staked her.
"In the original script, Jeremy kills Vicki. And that’s what we shot. Jeremy is forced to choose between saving the love of his life or his sister, and he chooses his sister. We shot the whole thing and I [moved back to] L.A. Then about a week and a half later, I got an e-mail from Kevin and [coexecutive producer] Julie Plec asking me to come back to Atlanta to reshoot my death scene — only this time Stefan kills me," Ewell told Entertainment Weekly.
"They chose to have Stefan kill me because it makes him more of a hero since he saves Elena. There was also the question of would Jeremy know to actually stake a vampire in the heart? In the original script, when Vicki gets staked you see her disappear into dust. But in the [reshot scene that aired], Stefan pulls the stake out and Damon takes me away," Ewell explained.
Guess we have our first DVD extra when Vampire Diaries, Season One is released next year.

The Vampire Diaries' Kayla Ewell Talks To PIX!
Kayla Ewell plays Vicki Donovan on The CW’s newest hit, The Vampire Diaries.

She dropped by The PIX Morning News and spoke to Emily Frances earlier this week about her show.
PIX: Good morning and welcome to the CW family.
Kayla Ewell: Thank you.
PIX: I have a feeling that the character you play on The Vampire Diaries is very much opposite from how you are in real life.
KE: Yes, absolutely. That’s what actually attracted me to the role in the beginning. She was just so much fun and was always popping pills, doing drugs, having sex and it really was like the opposite of who I was in high school.
PIX: So you were a good girl?

Jasmine Guy Is A Witch...On Vampire Diaries!
This is going to make a lot of people feel really old. Jasmine Guy who starred as college student Whitley Gilbert in the mid 80's sitcom A Different World has been cast as Bonnie's GRANDMOTHER on The Vampire Diaries.

The 47-year-old actress is a bit young to be playing the grandmother of a teenybopper but Executive Producer Kevin Williamson explained to TV Guide the reason she looks so young is because she's really a witch.
"She's a college professor at the local university who teaches the occult. Bonnie starts to think she may be a witch, and it turns out they have a lineage of witches in their family dating back to Salem. Bonnie thinks it's all crazy until she starts doing things like lighting fires," Williamson said.
Although I know it's strictly taboo to ask, do you think this black magic woman will be a "good witch" or a "bad witch?"
