Superman Flies Again - Smallville To Return This Fall!

9:07AM | March 5, 2010 | posted by Gossip Guy | comments: 34

Clark%20Kent.jpg

The CW announced late yesterday that it's longest running series, Smallville will return next fall for an unprecedented 10th season.

Smallville has earned the right to return based on strong performances the series has produced after a move to Friday from its long established home on Thursday nights. Friday is typically the second lowest viewing night of the week, yet in its 9th season, Smallville has been able to increase viewership for the evening.

The current season of Smallville has been somewhat of a creative renaissance for the show, as many have cited this year's episodes as some of the best in show history.

Last month, The CW announced the renewals of five other series (Gossip Girl, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, America's Next Top Model and 90210). When Smallville did not appear on the list of returnees, many thought this to be the end of Clark Kent and company. Clearly, this is not the case.

Smallville airs on Fridays at 8pm (but you knew that already).

Are you happy that Smallville will continue next year? Tell us what you think.

More CW Pilot News!

11:10AM | February 3, 2010 | posted by Gossip Guy | comments: 9

Tom%20Welling%20Comic%20Con%202009.jpg

Tom Welling (Smallville's Clark Kent) is the producer of a pilot commissioned by The CW for a possible slot on next fall's schedule. Welling's show is called Hellcats and is a comedy-drama set in the world of competitive cheerleading. Kevin Murphy (who has written for such series as Desperate Housewives and The CW's cult favorite Reaper) wrote the pilot and will co-executive produce with Welling.

The CW also continues to mine ideas for new series from the world of literature (see such success stories as Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries). That's the case with Tara Bray Smith's novel Betwixt which may be making a leap from bookshelves to your flat screen this fall. This pilot is a story about good and evil in which urban changelings protect humans from bad stuff! Sounds like it would slot in really well with Supernatural and the aforementioned Vampire Diaries, no?

The CW has now committed to producing five pilots so far, including Hayden Panettiere's HMS, as well as last week's announcement of Nikita and Amy Sherman-Palladino's unnamed Wyoming-set family drama.

Perry White Returns To Smallville!

Michael%20McKean%20%26%20Annette%20O%27Toole.jpg

It was just announced that Michael McKean will reprise his role as Daily Planet Editor-In-Chief Perry White later this season. The announcement of McKean's return comes only a couple of days (two again?) after his real life wife Annette O'Toole was reported to be reprising her role as Martha Kent on the long-running CW hit.

Perhaps not so coincidentally, the two will be returning in the same episode (the second to last of the season) tentatively scheduled to air on May 14th.

We’re thrilled to have Michael back on the show,” said Smallville executive producer Brian Peterson, “and to be able to link it with the anticipated return of Martha Kent is just a phenomenal way to gear up to the end of the season.”

Peterson also revealed that in the episode we get to see Perry White's first encounter with Lois Lane.

Ma Kent Pays A Visit To Clark On Smallville!

Annette O'Toole who played Martha Kent during the first six seasons of Smallville has signed on the dotted line to reprise her role as Clark's mother later this season. Ma Kent has been missing from Smallville since she became a senator and moved to Washington, D.C. in 2007. No word yet on why Martha returns or how long she'll hang around, but her re-appearance will likely coincide with the all-important May sweeps.

V's Laura Vandervoort Is Game For A Smallville Return!

12:46PM | November 25, 2009 | posted by Gossip Guy | comments: 1138

Laura Vandervoort who played Clark Kent's Kryptonian Cousin Kara (AKA Super Girl) would definitely be interested in reprising her role on Smallville if producers gave her the call.

laura%20vandervoort%2Cjpg.jpg

"[The producers] had to get rid of my story line because it just didn't fit into the Lois-and-Clark direction that they were heading," Vandervoort told TV Guide.

However, if producers could figure out how to free Kara from Kandor and re-introduce her into Smallville, Vandervoort said that she would be up for a brief reunion. Of course, with the success of ABC's V, it may be harder for Smallville producers to free Vandervoort from that show than it would be to free Kara from Kandor.

We might be waiting a while.

Is There Justice In Smallville? Absolutely!

The CW has decided to schedule its highly anticipated two-part Justice Society themed Smallville story as a seamless 2-hour movie event.

Smallville%20-%20Clark.jpg

The two episodes previously titled Society and Legends will now be presented as Smallville: Absolute Justice and air on Friday, February 5th, 2010 from 8-10pm.

Written by D.C. Comics legend Geoff Johns (best known for his work on The Flash and The Green Lantern), Smallville: Absolute Justice will introduce such Justice Society members as Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Stargirl. Johns also wrote last season's Legion of Superheroes episode. Phil Morris returns as Martian Manhunter in the movie.

Originally, the Justice Society episode had been scheduled as a stand-alone hour. Then it expanded to two hours.

"To be honest, there were so many characters and so much great story that people would've been robbed of some great moments if we kept it to just one hour," said Executive Producer Kelly Souders. "So now that it's (two-hours), you won't miss anything."

The CW took the unusual step of presenting the story as a seamless 2-hour movie based on the strength of the two episodes.

Former Smallville Star Arrested. Could Face 20-Years!

11:16AM | October 22, 2009 | posted by Gossip Guy | comments: 74

Actor Sam Jones III who played Clark Kent's best friend Pete Ross on the first few seasons of Smallville has been arrested on drug charges and could face a maximum of 20 years behind bars in a federal prison if convicted.

Sam-Jones-III.jpg

Jones was arrested at his home in Canoga Park, California after a sting operation and was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute Oxycodone. Agents nabbed Jones with 10,000 tablets of Oxycodone (AKA OxyContin). According to the DEA, Jones was the "Hollywood connection" in this drug ring.

In an undercover sting operation that spanned more than 16 months, a federal agent posing as a supplier arranged to meet Jones and co-defendant Thomas Michael Cataloni at various locations in the L.A. area to hammer out the specifics of a deal in which Jones and Cataloni would purchase $75,000 worth of Oxycodone. The federal indictment alleged that Jones and Cataloni would then distribute the drugs within the community.

The two were expected in Federal Court yesterday to answer charges.

In addition to his role on Smallville, Jones is also known for playing Mekhi Phifer's younger brother Chaz Pratt on ER and has appeared on such TV series as CSI, The Practice and NYPD Blue.

Smallville Scoop From Comic Con!

SuperSmall2.jpg

Over the weekend, the Smallville panel convened at Comic-Con in San Diego. Here's some scoop about the new season:

Lois (Erica Durance) will be seen in 18 of Smallville's 22 episodes. There will be a love triangle between Clark, Lois and the Red-Blue Blur.

After developments in the season finale, Chloe and Clark's friendship will be tested. They have a little bit of a rocky start," says executive producer Kelly Souders.

To deal with her role in Jimmy's death, Chloe will channel her energies toward Watchtower and saving the world. "We'll see [Chloe] experimenting with some different paths. We're definitely going to see her trying new things this year. Always with the intent to save the world, but maybe not necessarily the way that Clark Kent has done," says Allison Mack.

Oliver Queen/Green Arrow will hit appear in several episodes and will be mired in a downward spiral that will eventually take him to rock-bottom. Oliver will be jealous of Clark's powers and his burgeoning relationship with Lois.

When we meet Zod, he is not yet a General. He is still a Major and unaware of the destruction of Krypton and Clark's existence.

Producers have an idea for a series finale, but will scrap it if Smallville goes to a tenth season.

Lex Luthor is NOT dead. Will Michael Rosenbaum reprise the character this season? Stay tuned.
