Expect the Unexpected.

Fans of One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected can breathe a huge sigh of relief. That's because CW honchos have renewed both fan favorites for next season. One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected were on the bubble to return, but the network has given the go ahead for orders of at least 12 episodes of each series.

The news was not so good for fans of Melrose Place. That show is officially kaput!

The network has also ordered at least two new series for the fall:

Hellcats, the college cheerleading drama from Smallville's Tom Welling (starring Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale) and Nikita, an updated take on the movie and TV series Le Femme Nikita and Point Of No Return, starring action film star Maggie Q.

A formal announcement and the rest of the CW fall schedule will be presented to advertisers on Thursday morning at Madison Square Garden.

1:46PM | April 12, 2010 | posted by Gossip Guy | comments: 617

Well...tonight's the night. The final episode of Life Unexpected unspools tonight at 8pm.

It's anybody's guess if this is the season or the series finale. In the episode titled Love Unexpected, Cate must confront her true feelings for the two men in her life, Baze and Ryan and to complicate Cate’s already conflicted feelings, Lux reveals something that threatens to change all of their lives forever.

Here are a couple of sneak previews. Tune in tonight at 8pm for the rest!

Life Interrupted? Are We Seeing The Final Episodes Of Life Unexpected -- Ever?

The final episode of the season (series?) of Life Unexpected will air in a couple of weeks (April 12th). In the episode, Cate finally confronts her feelings for Baze and Lux reveals something that may change everyone's lives forever. Can you say "cliffhanger?" Can you say no resolution? That's a distinct possibility because there is no guarantee that Life Unexpected will be back next season.

Life Unexpected is considered a "bubble show," that is, not performing well enough to be considered an automatic shoo-in for renewal, but decent enough to merit the possibility. It's going to come down to ratings for the final two episodes.

Do you want a second season from Life Unexpected? If you do, let us know and we'll forward your comments to The CW.

During a meeting with the social worker, Cate, Baze and Lux agree to put on a happy face to ensure that Lux isn’t placed back in the foster care system.

In an attempt to show Lux that she supports her, Cate offers to find Bug a job at her radio station, but winds up disappointing Lux once again.

Lux is forced to face her complicated feelings for Jones when she sees him kissing another girl at a party.

Ed Martin of The Huffington Post wrote a great review yesterday about Life UneXpected that you should check out:

"... the arrival this season of an entertaining hour drama that does not revolve around doctors, lawyers, detectives, government agents, supernatural beings or sex-crazed teenagers is a miraculous circumstance all its own."

"...uncommonly ambitious storyline as its foundation and characters with so many layers to them it could take years to peel them all away. The opportunities for rewarding emotional connections are endless."

Cate contemplates finally telling Ryan the full truth about Baze, but can’t bear the thought of what might happen if she does.

The CW is eXpecting...

Gossip Girl will soon be taking a short winter hiatus, but will come back with 12 first-run episodes that will air without interruption through the end of the season in late May.

LIfe%20Unexpected%20Cast.jpg

While Gossip Girl is on short rest, The CW will debut Life UneXpected, an hour-long comedy drama that's been described as a cross between Gilmore Girls and Juno.

In Life UneXpected, 15-year-old foster child Lux wants to become an emancipated minor and seeks out her biological dad, thirty-something "Baze," who lives like an aging frat boy and is shocked to learn that he has a daughter. Lux is equally surprised to find out that her mother is Cate Cassidy, a local radio star. When a judge grants custody of Lux to Baze and Cate, they decide to make a belated attempt at becoming a family.

Life UneXpected premieres Mondays at 9pm beginning January 18th. Here's a preview:

Life UneXpected stars Shiri Appleby who you may remember from The WB's Roswell. It also features Kristoffer Polaha (Mad Men, North Shore, Miss Guided) and Brittany Robertson (Swingtown).
